The family enjoys teaching guests the traditional art of flying the patang, or Indian fighter kite. The best time for this activity is on 14th January, during the kite festival, when the rooftops in the pols are packed with flyers.
The pols of Ahmedabad's walled city are clusters of houses traditionally occupied by people of the same caste, community, or profession, set along narrow lanes shaded by the buildings. These lanes often had gates for security and sometimes secret exits known only to residents. Walking tours offer a glimpse into the unique architecture and traditions of these historic neighbourhoods.
The Mehta family has a rich musical tradition, with the women being talented singers and musicians. From time to time, they host musical nights (Bethaks) at the haveli, where guests can enjoy performances of haveli sangeet, classical music, and folk songs, offering a deep dive into the cultural heritage of the region.
