Constructed in 1883, Garden Palace was once the Bageecha, or garden retreat, for the royals of Balasinor and served as the residence of the Diwan. Its buttery yellow exterior conceals lavish interiors, with period furniture and palace relics scattered throughout. The family now lives on the first floor, formerly the royal guest quarters, while guest rooms are on the ground floor.

History

The royal family moved here in the 1940s after their main residence, Navchokia Palace, was destroyed by fire during the British Raj. HH Nawab Mohammad Salabat Khan and his wife, Begum Farhat Sultana, have since converted it into a Heritage Homestay. Their son, Nawabzada Sultan Salauddin Khan Babi, and daughter, Nawabzadi Aaliya Sultana Babi, now manage it with Nawabzada Salauddin’s wife.
